Owned Off-Campus Properties: Today’s Baby Boomer-classified parents expect far more from the college experience for their Generation Y children than what they encountered while going to school. Parents are now more involved in their children’s lives than ever, regardless of their children’s age. As the cost of education has ballooned-causing parents to shell out tens of thousands of dollars per year on tuition, books and housing parents have come to expect both aesthetics and access for their money. The primary focus on the acquisitions of properties will be to cater to these demands by students and parents alike in the sector known as Off-Campus Student Housing.
Off-Campus properties are generally located in close proximity to the school campus, generally with pedestrian, bicycle, or University shuttle access. Most university’s are only able to house a small percentage of their overall enrollment, and are therefore highly dependent upon the off-campus market to provide housing for their students. High-quality, well run off-campus student housing can be a critical component to an institution’s ability to attract and retain students. Therefore developing and maintaining good relationships with the general educational institutions can result in a privately owned off-campus facility becoming in-effect an extension of the institution’s housing program, with the institutions providing highly valued references and recommendations to future students and their parents.
Select Student Housing prefers to Own and Operate student housing properties that are within walking distance to the main campus. This eliminates the need for the expense of a Car and allows the resident to remain surrounded by "University Atmosphere."
